Black Girl Showcase

Who

We encourage girls entering 1st through 8th grades to attend Black Girl Showcases. Girl Action Teams present their projects and experiences to explore identity, youth advocacy and social justice topics in safe, inclusive spaces. We also take time to celebrate a girl in the community as the Social Change Agent of the Year.*

*Girls do not have to be a participant in our programs to receive
this award.

What

  • Artists, activists, educators, policymakers and leaders of organizations come together to honor the girls and provide them with resources and valuable information
  • Girl Action Teams and Girl Ambassadors present their projects
  • Social Change Agents discuss a topic they will research through Girl Action Teams during the academic school year

Why

These city-wide celebrations, which are free and open to the public, are designed to uplift, celebrate and fortify our girls at the end of the school year. While Girls For A Change presents opportunities for girls’ voices to be heard as they create social change within their communities, there is still a call for the wider community to hear their stories, validate their work, embrace their causes and do something about it. Black Girl Showcases were intentionally created to give the community an occasion to step up and answer that call.
