Girls For A Change expanded internationally for the first time in 2005 in partnership with an Oakland-based NGO, Soccer Without Borders (SWB). SWB staff traveled to northern Uganda and incorporated GFC into their girls’ soccer program. Making decisions and sharing opinions were very new skills to the girls, but after a few meetings the young women were inspired to think critically about their community and take action. The program was cut short due to logistical concerns, but the girls were able to each make an individual plan for what they wanted to change in their community.
