GEMS and Jewels Girl Empowerment Program – Responsibilities of Owning a Pet
Girls from GEMS and Jewels were committed to “Being the Change” this spring. The founders of the organization partnered with GFC to bring social change to their existing programming. The girls decided to do a short educational film to educate youth and adults on the responsibilities of owning a pet.  They felt that thousands of animals end up homeless, neglected, abused or killed as a result of people not fully knowing the time investment needed in caring a pet. The girls believed that understanding that there is a lot of work involved in raising pets comes too late so owners abandon the pets or send them to shelters. They wrote, directed and acted in their video that addresses these issues and will be reaching audiences through YouTube and GEMS and Jewels events.
