GFC National Tour - Thousands of Girls Trained as Change Agents!

TeenPregnancyWeb  Car

In September and October 2008, GFC embarked on its first ever National Tour, presented by The Sephora Project. The National Tour was the catalyst for our nationwide expansion and the start of 100 Girl Action Teams throughout the United States!

The National Tour included Change Your World Trainings and Girl Action Zones at Sephora Stores nationwide. Check out some results below!

Change Your World Trainings - 2-hour trainings for girls in middle school or high school that teach what social change is and how to take action in your community!

  • More than 2,300 girls were trained at 25 schools! Each girl received a Girl Action Kit detailing how she can create change in her neighborhood, city or school. Check out the social change webs girls created about the community issues they want to change
  • We traveled more than 6,500 miles reaching girls in 11 cities
  • Following the trainings, hundreds of girls have joined our Girl Action Network
  • GFC Girl Action Teams will start at more than 70% of the schools where we offered Change Your World Trainings. This number is still growing!
  • GFC will expand to Richmond, VA where 8-10 new Girl Action Teams will start in January 2009

Girl Action Zones - held at Sephora Stores throughout the country, these information sessions introduced girls to GFC and invited them to identify their passions and join our Girl Action Network

  • Community members told us what they want to change and what they are passionate about. Check out the videos here!
  • Hundreds of community members were invited to join the GFC Girl Action Network and encouraged to take a stand for change in their community
  • GFC Staff brought Girl Action Zones to 10 Sephora stores in 10 cities throughout the U.S.

The tour empowered thousands of girls across the country and launch a new Girls For A Change site in Richmond, VA. This year we will both double the number of GFC community sites and the number of girls we reach.

Our four-week tour started in the San Francisco Bay Area and ended in New York City—stopping at more than 25 schools and organizations along the way! The tour is the catalyst to launch 100 new Girl Action Teams nationwide. Click here to learn more about the tour, which includes Change Your World Trainings in five cities, Girl Action Zones in 10 cities along the way, and our powerful new Change Your World Action Kit and Training that will be free to girls nationwide.

The Girl Action Zones on the National Tour are proving to be a huge sucess. Girl Action Zones are interactive gatherings where girls and women learn about social change and the power they have to create it. Girls and women will discover their inner social change agent and their inner beauty at participating SEPHORA stores throughout the country. These 3 hour events inside the Sephora stores will include opportunities to discover what social change means, brainstorm what issues are important to women and girls and learn about ways GFC can support girls and women in creating change. GFC representatives will be on hand to guide girls and women through this process. There will also be an opportunity to sign up for GFC’s Action Network and be part of a network of women and girls throughout the world who are working on change projects. In addition, girls and women will have the chance to share what they are passionate about and how they want to address the issue they want to change by creating photo and video diaries that will be posted online on GFC’s Action Network.

The first GAZ was held at the Sephora store on Powell Street in San Francisco. Tonight and tomorrow there will be a GAZ at the Sephora store in the Beverly Center in Los Angeles.
