PHX: Spring Into Action - Feb. 9, 2008
Phoenix's 2nd annual Spring Into Action!
Date: Saturday February 9, 2008
Time: 10 a.m. -- 1:30 p.m.
Location: ASU Downtown Campus, Phoenix, AZ
This dynamic and energizing day for Girl Action Teams includes guest speakers, performers and workshops for girls and GFC Coaches.
Girls will take workshops on skills they need for creating social change including networking, budgeting, organizing and working with elected officials. Teams also have time to work on their project plan as they are preparing to implement a social change project in their community.
The FREE event includes a light morning snack and lunch. Girls also receive goodie bags!

PERFORMER:
DIVINE - Divine has been performing her spoken word for over 14 yrs. She began performing at local coffee houses and eventually ended up performing at various corporate functions, featuring at national youth conferences and opening up for Big name stars, such as, Les Brown, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Classical violinist Daniel Bernard Roumain. Divine travels to various high schools, sharing her knowledge of poetry with young men and women. She teaches self expression through written word is therapeutic. Divine performs at elementary and high school functions. Her most recent projects include a movie debut in Second Chance, a Big Eye Production and Eve Ensler’s Vagina Monologues. As Poetry Workshop Instructor, Divine created “Don’t Hold Your Tongue,” workshops that focus on performing the spoken word. It teaches the writer how to over come stage fright, practice voice projection and the art of verbal fasting. This is a technique that helps with clearing the mind and self discipline so the writer can eventually become conscious of what it is that they are writing about. It is expressed to the student that thoughts are food for the soul. Divine has taught her workshops in correctional facilities, high schools and universities. Within the Community,Divine makes her way into the hearts of many, by performing her spoken word for The Phoenix, Birthing Project, AIDS foundations, drug rehabilitation centers, Domestic Violence shelters, senior and youth community centers and homeless shelters.
